Position Summary

American Athletic, Inc is a major sports equipment manufacturing company located in Jefferson, Iowa. We are owned by Spalding; a division of Fruit of the Loom, an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., & leading international basic apparel company.


We currently have an opening for an Engineering Technician. The Engineering Technician is responsible for completing project quotations and working closely with the Engineering team on product development, quality improvement, safety, and other projects.  Coordinates and completes submittal drawings, manufacturing prints, bills of material, and shop routings.  Additionally, this position provides support to Manufacturing, Customer Service, outside reps, dealers, and installers on Spalding/AAI products, including gymnastics equipment, mats, padding, basketball structures, batting cages, etc.


AAI is the official equipment supplier to USA Gymnastics®, NCAA® Gymnastics Championships, the YMCA® National Championships, the Nadia Comaneci International Invitational, and the Bart Connor Invitational. AAI is also an official supporter of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Spalding has been the official backboard of the NCAA Final Four Championships since 2009 and is one of the most well-known brands in the industry.


Our Jefferson, Iowa facility has been in operation and supporting our local community since 1954.

Specific Responsibilities

Utilize architectural drawings/specifications, Spalding take-offs, and other information provided by the dealer to complete project quotations.

Complete custom project approvals, product drawings, bills of material, and routings.

Support Customer Service, dealers, and installers through all phases of a project and as needed.

Refine conceptual and manufacturing designs via the use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Troubleshoot design and manufacturing related issues.

Assist with cost savings, safety, and other projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Engineering, a related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding and ability to create prints, bills of material, routings, instruction manuals and specification sheets.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are a priority.
  • Ability to solve problems and have a wide degree of creativity.

Minimum Job Experience Required

  • Previous work experience not required (minimum of 2 years related work experience is required in lieu of an Associate degree).
  • Drafting experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
