Position Summary

AAI/Spalding is a major sports equipment manufacturing company owned by Spalding; a division of Fruit of the Loom, an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., & leading international basic apparel company.


AAI is the official supplier and partner to USA Gymnastics and the NCAA, as well as a proud partner with the Federation Internationale De Gymnastique (FIG).


Spalding is the largest basketball equipment supplier in the world. As the official backboard of the NBA and NCAA since 2009, this makes them one of the most well-known brands in the industry.


Our Jefferson, Iowa facility has been in operation and supporting our local community since 1954.


The Accounting Manager is responsible for accounting and finance operations at the AAI facility including month-end financial statement closing activities, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, payroll, budget development, and financial reporting and analysis. 

This position ensures the accuracy of accounting records and recommends procedural and system improvements to ensure proper financial controls and compliance with standards. Completes duties in collaboration with corporate accounting and finance personnel.

 

This is an in-person position located in our Jefferson, Iowa facility. 

Specific Responsibilities

Perform general accounting activities including month and year-end accounting close.

·         Journal entry preparation

·         Account reconciliation and variance analysis.

·         Preparation and review of operating and financial statements.

·         Communicate analysis, results and reports to management and Corporate Finance personnel.

Compile and analyze information for new product costing and costing changes.  Maintain cost information. Manage product pricing and provide margin analysis.

Monitor daily business transactions including cash, accounts payable, bookings, and backlog listing. Identify and resolve discrepancies.

Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with management. Monitor budget variances and provide insights.

Process weekly payroll and submit data to Corporate for payment.

Complete ad hoc and special projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent to a bachelor’s degree
  • CPA a plus
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting methods
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Advanced MS Office skills required
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities
  • Excellent communication and organization skills

Minimum Job Experience Required

  • 5+ years of related accounting and finance experience
  • Experience with full cycle accounting and month-end closing process
  • Experience preparing financial statements
